Team,

I hope all of you had a great week off school last week.  Or for the middle school kids, I hope you enjoyed your 2 days.  It was good to be back with you all again Saturday at the race.  That course proved to be a challenge.  It is a deceivingly slow course time wise so I want to reiterate that time isn't the litmus test, your placing is.

I have to apologize to everyone for this week.  My strategy was to get you guys in the mindset of working together to push each other to run faster.  I'll talk more about that at practice this week to clarify.  At the end of the day, your strategy each week should be to move up the rankings.  Pick the next person ahead of you and push yourself to beat them.  I was bummed I wasn't more clear with that but again, you'll hear more during practice.

The race for some of you was awesome and I want to highlight that.  For the girls: Adrianna, Kendall, Shannon, Kaylee T, Abby, and Veronica all did amazing.  And for the boys: Noah, Nathan, Daniel, Johnny, Jacob M, Tyler, and Joey.  Here's the deal gang, it's the end of the season and everyone in the conference is gunning to move up and get faster.  If you aren't prepared mentally for the challenge, you are going to see other kids in the conference run right by you.

We have 2 more regular season races.  Just to clarify, if you are top 8 in the conference at the qualifying meet not only will you be on the A-Team for nationals, you also will receive some financial assistance to get there.  Mt. SAC is this week and you will see the best competition of the season.  This race is challenging but very exciting and most of you will run really fast there despite the hills.  This week you have to be on your best game.  Get tough out there and fight for every position.  You all have had great seasons to this point, don't be discouraged if you didn't have a great race last weekend.  Now is the time to pick it up and be ready to perform at your best.  I'll do my best to prepare you, but you have to be willing to put it all out on the course.

I am looking forward to a great week.  Your legs will start to feel more and more fresh.  Make sure you aren't forgetting nutrition and sleep.  Two key ingredients at this stage in the game.  After the nutrition seminar I gave, not many of you decided to try the products I recommend.  And honestly I don't think I did a great job of actually promoting them.  So I decided to buy a selection of the products so you can buy one or two types and try it.  Gatorade does not cut it, and right now is the time to boost your body with nutrition.  The worst thing that could happen at the end of the season is for you to get sick.  Let's make it through healthy and strong.  I'll have the electrolyte drink, recovery drink, energy chews, and protein available this week if you'd like to buy some and try it out.

I love the Prefontaine quotes so this week here are 2 of them to roll around in your heads:

·         "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift."

·         "A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more."

Thank you again for such a great season.  We have 2 great weeks ahead of us so keep up the hard work!

Coach Jeremy
