Coach's Corner
Greetings Parents,

The first week of practice went extremely well, our club has grown considerably. The coaches have done a great job, and the athletes have all worked very hard during the conditioning phase! At the end of this week we will start practicing field events, hurdles, and blocks.  We encourage athletes to try all of the events.  We are still in need of more coaches and parent helpers, especially in the long jump event. Please see me at practice if you are able to help.

On Saturday we will have a practice meet, please come ready to help. This will help you and the athletes become familiar with the mechanics of a meet.  We need to get a time and mark for all the athletes before the first meet.

I am very excited about this season and look forward to a successful year.

Coach Bingham

All Athletes Check In
This week there will not be a check in table before practice. All athletes will check in with their age group coach after they have conpleted their warm up.

Lap-a-thon
A SCTC Storm tradition
is set for March 17, 2008!

We are excited about each and every athlete participating. During this practice, athletes will run laps on the track for one hour. This is a very fun event for the kids and an important fundraiser for our team. Money from this event keeps our registration fee low and helps us provide important track meets and training equipment for our athletes.

This is a music-motivated event; singing along, running to the tempo! Oh WAIT! YOU'RE NOT A DISTANCE RUNNER!? NOT important! This is a fundraiser not a race ~ run or walk/dance, create an hour-long relay team! Challenge yourself!  Just recruit your donations accordingly!

The more per athlete sponsors you get the more donations! There are 2 ways for sponsors to support our athletes, one is a per lap donation such as $3.00 per lap for you distance runners; the other is simply a flat donation of any amount, for example $40.00.

Our team will acknowledge those who raises the most money and all participants in this event.  The Grand Prize is 4 Park Hopper tickets to Disneyland/California Adventure the top athlete who raise the most funds for the club.

If for some reason you are unable to participate the night of the event, families are encouraged to OPT OUT by giving a tax-deductible donation of $40.00 payable to the SCTC. This is our only team fundraiser and requires everybody's support. Your effort will be recognized and appreciated. Participants (athletes collecting donations from their sponsors for $40 or more) will receive a Storm Lap-a-thon tee shirt.

When turning in money, we ask that only ONE CHECK PER FAMILY, payable to SCTC, be written for the entire amount the athlete has raised. (Sponsor check donations written directly to the club by non-members may not be credited to your child.)

You can download the pledge form by clicking here, or by visiting our website, or asking Liz at the Tag-Table. The due date to turn in the funds is April 3, 2008. Flat donations can be turned in immediately. Prizes will be awarded based on the most funds raised and turned in by April 3, 2008 7:45pm. Funds will still be accepted after that date but won't count towards the grand prizes.

Jelly Beans
We are asking every family to contribute two bags of jelly beans or Jolly Ranchers to hand out after every practice to our athletes. Please turn them in to Liz at the "Tag Table"

Practice
Our Practices are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6:00pm till aproximatly 7:45 pm and on Saturdays at 8:00 am - 10:00am.

Paperwork
If your child is missing registration paperwork please get it to Liz as soon as possible, please let her know if you are having a problem getting something, such as a birth certificate, a school registration record can be used to subsitue for a birth certificate or a passport. If your child missed signing the players contract or the code of conduct please make sure they stop by the 'Tag Table' to sign the forms.

What to Wear or Bring to Practice

Athletes should wear shorts (NO JEANS) a loose T-shirt, and they must bring warm-ups (sweat pants and sweatshirt) to all practices and meets (LABEL ALL CLOTHING).

Please bring a large bottle (20 ounces) of water to all practices and meets. When the weather heats up, more water is needed.

Each athlete must have a pair of good RUNNING SHOES. Cross training, basketball or mid/high tops are NOT ACCEPTABLE and may cause injury. Please check that the upper part of the shoe is mounted squarely on the sole--not lopsided--and that there is enough padding to absorb the shock of running. Athletes arriving in non-running shoes will be asked to "sit-out" practice.
