This has been a tough week. It was incredibly hot for the Thursday hill and Saturday tempo workouts. This is a great opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of bringing water to practice. It's probably a good idea to bring something small enough to carry in case we're not working out close to where we drop our gear.

We're officially entering the pre-competition phase of our training this week. That means some intense interval workouts and more of the type of tempo running we did on Saturday morning. Here's what the week will look like.

MONDAY- Heritage Park @ 8AM

Due to the holiday, and the heat, we'll be running our distance run in the morning for this week. This will be a conversational pace where we'll continue to push the distance for each group a little bit further. This pace should be about a 6 out of 10.

TUESDAY- Saugus High Track @ 6PM

Tonight will be our first official interval workout on the track. Be prepared to run short intervals faster than your mile pace last Tuesday. This will be a hard night.

THURSDAY- COC @ 6PM

Hills again! Why all the hills? Our 2nd and 3rd meets are all about the hills. This is one of the best ways to build endurance strength.

SATURDAY- Central Park @ 8AM

Another tempo day.

There's a lot going on over the next couple of weeks as we approach our first meet. Continue to access the calendar on the website for last minute changes to the schedule.

In the meantime, take care of yourself. That means drinking plenty of water all day long, eating right and getting plenty of rest. All of this hard work will only pay off if you give your body a chance to recover.

Your in Running,

Coach Darren

Volunteers Still Needed!!
Your involvement with the team directly impacts the success of your child's experience this season.  It is expected of EVERY family to volunteer their time in some way to this program.  So far, we have only a handful of parents helping out on a team of 80+ athletes. You all have been great in the past and we need you to step up and help again. A huge thank you to those of you that have already done so!

LAP-A-THON COORDINATORS -
This is our one fundraiser.  Without it, we will be forced to limit our expenses for awards, team parties, and post season.  We will also be forced to dramatically raise our registration fees next year. The absence of a lap-a-thon coordinator affects us all!

"Number one is just to gain a passion for running.  To love the morning, to love the trail, to love the pace on the track.  And if some kid gets really good at it, that's cool too."- Pat Tyson
