Congratulations
on completing your first official meet
on Saturday! As wet and muddy as it was,
those are the meets you'll remember for
a lifetime. The cool weather made for
some impressive performances v. last
year. Stay tuned for results to be
posted on the website.
Now that we're in competition mode
we'll make some slight adjustments
to our training calendar. Here's
what we'll be working on this week:
MONDAY-
Heritage Park @ 6PM
Mondays will continue to be our
distance night. This is a recovery
night, meaning conversational pace
the whole way!
TUESDAY- Saugus High Track @ 6PM
Tuesdays will continue to be our
interval night. That means that on a
scale of 1 to 10, the effort is a
10! You'll have plenty of time to
recover in between repetitions
though. We'll increase the total
distance a little bit this week in
order to continue to push our bodies
to handle extreme discomfort, kind
of like the last 400m of last
Saturday's meet.
THURSDAY- Central Park @ 6PM
Thursdays will become our tempo
night. Tempo is a little slower than
race pace but is designed to
continue to increase your aerobic
capacity. When you run at this pace,
your body actually grows blood
vessels to help carry oxygen through
your blood! This is how you train
your body to run at an intense pace
for longer and longer distances.
That means start line to finish
line.
I hope everyone is as proud of
themselves as I am of all of you. I
promise that if you continue to come
to practice and focus on the workout
of the night, you'll continue to
improve through the season. The more
discomfort you feel every night, the
less you'll feel in the long run.
Looking forward to a relaxing
distance run tomorrow night when we
can all share our stories of MUD RUN
2007. Until then...
Yours in Running,
Coach Darren
