Parents and Athletes,
Well, it's hard to
believe, but we are
starting the 4th week of
practice already! I
don't know about you
parents but it seems
each year is going
faster and faster. So
that's why we have to
enjoy each day, each
practice, each HOT
run... You know what
I'm talking about. How
are you enjoying the
triple digit weather?
Remarkably from my view,
all of you are doing
great. Parents and
Athletes, and I love to
see the enjoyment you
are having out there.
We could have an elitist
team and only focus on
those kids that are
striving to and have the
ability to win. The
Storm club makes a
conscious decision to
mold and instruct any
willing athlete. That's
why I'm here and I'm
confident you feel the
same way. I'm just as
happy coaching the
fastest athletes as I am
the new athletes, and
those athlete's that
just work hard for PR's.
So let's get down to
business.
We've covered a lot in
the first 3 weeks of
practice but for review
I'll highlight some key
things we've learned:
1. HAVE FUN!
Athletes, if you aren't
having fun, then I've
failed. I'll never tell
you it's going to be
easy, but even through
difficulty in training
you have to enjoy it.
2. Proper
technique! Focus,
focus, focus, on each
stretch, on each drill,
on each core exercise,
on each running step.
Now is the time to train
your body to run
effortlessly, do it now
and you'll be great
forever.
3. Hydration! You
should be drinking water
all day long at school.
Walk by a drinking
fountain, take a big
gulp, drink water at
lunch, NOT COKE!! An
hour or less before
practice, drink a glass
of Gatorade or
electrolyte. Bring a
large bottle of water
and electrolyte with you
to practice. Right
after practice you
should have an
electrolyte drink to
start the recovery
process.
4. HAVE FUN!!!
Those are 4 points that
will help you be
successful this season
and help you have a
great time.
I almost forgot, have
you gone around your
neighborhood looking for
someone that could use
your help with: weed
pulling, tree trimming,
window washing, car
washing... Get out
there and make a
difference in your
neighborhood and while
you do that tell your
neighbors about Storm
and ask if they would
support you in the
lap-a-thon!
Ok, that's it for this
week.
Looking forward to the
weeks to come, keep
having fun, stay healthy
and we'll see you soon!
My best to each of you!
