Parents and
Athletes,
Storm team:
Parents and athletes you
should be so proud as I
am of you. We knew the
races would heat up but
did you think we'd see
so much heat coming from
our kids smokin' up the
course? Wow we had some
great racing. I saw some
of the newbies make big
improvements, as well as
many of the seasoned
athletes just killing it
out there. I can't name
any because there
literally are too many
to choose from to
highlight. Parents led
by Mike Baretta were
enjoying the hills and
heat as they were
running intervals up and
down the mountain to
make sure the kids had
cold sponges during the
race. Overall, just so
amazing to watch.
Incredible job!!
Many of you learned that
nutrition is much more
important than you ever
thought. With the heat,
you almost need to
double the fluid intake
before the race and you
must have electrolyte's
before or you will die
out there. I'm happy to
report there were no
deaths this time, but
plenty of severe
dehydration. J This will
be my last invitation to
a sports nutrition
seminar I'll do in the
next couple weeks. If
you are a Midget and
Youth and desire to be
competitive, or just
want to feel better when
training and racing this
will help you. I've
heard from just a
handful with interest,
please email me and I'll
put it on the calendar
and let everyone know
soon.
This week we are
preparing for
Corriganville. This is a
great race course with
no hills and lots of
shade. That means it's
fast. So we'll start
Monday with a longer run
with some tempo's mixed
in. Tuesday night
intervals will be flat,
longer, and fast.
Thursday night hills
again will focus more on
speed than strength.
I'll talk more about the
race during practice but
a quick plug is that it
definitely is one of the
more enjoyable course
both to race and
spectate.
As always I am available
if you have questions,
if the athletes have
pains, or anything else
you think I can help
with. I'm having a blast
this season with all of
you, thanks for making
it so great!!
