Storm Team,

Did everyone make it back with all your skin intact?  Brutal morning last Saturday is my description.  There's nothing better than running along and then getting smacked in the face with a 30 MPH gust of wind in tornado-like fashion.  My best memory was a huge wind bringing a cloud of dust right towards the bantam girls start line and all of them screaming and turning away!  When all was said and done I think we only had to retrieve one of them from a tree!  J  That's one of those meets you are very happy is over.  However, you guys still raced very well and should be proud of it.  Many moved up in position, some solidified their spot but everyone deserves a big pat on the back for completing that race.

Thanks to parents and other coaches for hanging in there and cheering on your kids.

This week we are preparing for El Cariso but unfortunately will be missing a lot of the team for fall break.  We'll be training hard again and then start our descending approach to MT. SAC and the final meet at our home course next week.  Tapering is the name of that game, we'll start to back off the mileage in training next week.  But for now, it's on.  We'll hit the hills hard again this week to get the leg strength and speed up.  El Cariso is a grass course with no major hills but you are always under pressure because of the thick grass.

Parents of athletes who are consistently placing in the top 8, I need you to start thinking of post season racing.  What does that mean?  Qualified athletes, top 8 in each division, will be invited to combine with the top 8 runners in our conference to compete in post season races.  The ultimate goal is racing in the USATF Junior Olympic race in San Antonio, TX in December.  The reason you need to be discussing this is that in November there are 2 qualifying races which unfortunately land on Sunday.  We will continue to train on the same schedule through November and up to the race in December.  Check exact dates on our website for the races.  Big commitment, financially and physically and probably emotionally.  However, this is a great time for the athletes and it is a blast, but you need to understand the reality.  We'll discuss this more in the coming days and would invite all of you in the top 8 category to go. Click here to see the  RANKINGS.

I am excited to finish the season strong!  We've had a lot of amazing performances so far and believe me when I say you won't be the only ones getting faster at the end of the season.  We want you to be running at your peak for the last 2 races.  Stay healthy, take your vitamins, don't drink after your friends or anyone.  Stay off the skateboards..  When you've been going this long, you want to finish well so be smart when you are playing at school as well.

Be good and we'll see you at Central Park.

Until next time,

Coach Jeremy
