Dear Storm Family,

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a fantastic spring break!

We will be at home this weekend and next.

Lap-a-thon funds should be turned in, but if you haven't yet turned them in, please get them to Tom as soon as possible.

The big thing this week is the Scholastic award form, Please turn them in by Thursday.

Our SOAR athletes will be working our concession stand this weekend. They will be doing that to raise funds for the 2014-15 SOAR team. Please be sure to ask them about the program.

Volunteers, We need everyone to pitch in and help in order to host our meets, we have the big things covered, but there are still lots of jobs in running the meet. Most of these jobs allow you to get right up and be a part of your athletes event.  Field events need to be covered as well. We've schedule the jobs into 2 hour 15 minute slots, There is no limit on the amount of slots you can sign up for, so please stay and enjoy the meet and help out too.

The medal is engraved with the student's name, year and symbol of the sport in which he/she is participating. A special President's Award Medal is presented to players that maintain straight A's.

This Weeks Track Meet

To Volunteer for this weeks track meet please click here.  Please be sure to use this sign up list, it helps us to know we have the events covered.

We really need someone to work as an announcer, this is a very fun job, you get to be on the field, and we will teach you everything you need to know.

A really big thing we need for every meet is the ability to move all our equipment from the storage unit across the street to the track, so we need people with Pick up trucks, SUVs, or Vans. We meet at 6:30 am to load. Our storage unit is in Valencia Storage (not Valencia Storage II), its right next door to the Ice skating rink.

Most Field events are finished some time around 2:00 pm, if we could get some people with trucks, SUVs and Vans to load up the equipment used for the field events, that stuff can be brought back to the storage unit, while the final events are being ran.

SOAR Program to run our Concession Stand
Our Students Off And Running (SOAR) athletes will be running our concession stand this weekend. They are working to raise funds for the 2014-2015 program. There's a bit more about our program in the box following this one. Please help support this program by getting food from them, there will also be a 50/50 raffle.

Students SOAR to New Heights
at LA Marathon XXIX
SOAR 2014 LA Marathon Finishers Nineteen Hart School District students successfully completed the 29th running of the Los Angeles Marathon amidst an international field of more than 25,000 participants. Sponsored by Students Off And Running (SOAR), a division of the Santa Clarita Track Club, this program dedicates itself to offering SCV youth the opportunity to participate in a fully supported, 24-week, 380 mile marathon training program while challenging themselves to accomplish something truly extraordinary in a non-competitive arena. Head coach and program director Kevin Sarkissian shared his thoughts just after safely bringing in his last student runner Sunday, "We couldn't be more proud of the level of determination our students showed today," Sarkissian said. "Just committing to the SOAR program is tough enough considering all these kids have going on at home and in school. Couple that with a long, tough training season, and you really get an understanding why today gives collective testament to their inner strength. It's not often that you see the average teenager getting out of bed at 2 am to run 26.2 miles, it just doesn't happen." Less than 1% of Americans ever complete a full marathon. SOAR is not about recruiting seasoned high school athletes; the program looks for any youth with heart, who are willing to commit to a truly life changing experience. Now celebrating its seventh year of success, the results continue to impress with the program reporting an astounding 100% marathon completion rate for all SOAR participants since the program began in 2007. In addition, parents, teachers, and students report better focus in school, increased positive social interaction, and dramatic improvement in overall physical health. For more information on supporting or participating in the program visit www.soar-sc.org or contact Kevin Sarkissian at 661-877-7024 for more information.

Sincerely,
