Santa Clarita Track Club
First Track Meet
Greetings Parent

As we move into the competition phase of our season, I thought I would give you some information of what to expect about track and field meets. Below is taken from our website on the track page in the Event Schedule link along the right side of the screen.

We require a lot of help at track meets, we have set up a system for you to volunteer a few hours to help us out, we shoot for 2 hour shifts. Only people who are working the meet will be allowed on the field to help or at a field event.

Please Click Here to sign up to help.

WE need some people with Pick up trucks, we have a lot of equipment across he street at our storage shed. We meet there at 6:30 AM to load, I have a place for people who can help move equipment from the storage unit over to the school. So far I don't see any one signed up we have a lot of equipment to move and without your help, we can't start the meet. So please sign up and let me know your planning on being there. (Reply to this news letter if you can show up and help move the equipment)

Set up Crew please arrive at 7:00 am, we will explain what needs to happen to help.

Field event workers will be needed, we will be running 1 long jump pit, the High Jump Pit, and the Shot put ring, we will try to get help from the visiting teams.

We will need some volunteers to help learn our stagging. Hurdle crew to setup and move the hurdles, and then remove them from the track after the kids run.

Last week we did timing during our practices and hopefully we were able to give you a slight idea of what to expect on Saturday.

Here is the final list of what we need. PEOPLE TO HELP!

Please take a little time sign up and make sure we fill in all spots on the sign up sheet. we need your help.

Below is posted on our website but will explain a bit more specific about the track meet this Saturday.

Athletes who compete in more than the maximum number of events will have ALL marks for the day disqualified, and would cause their relay team to be disqualified. Please address any questions to your coach to avoid any possibility of exceeding the maximum allowable number of events.

Running vs Field Events

Running events take precedence over field events. First check in at your field event. After the 2nd call for a running event, check out with the field event judge and proceed to the staging area to check in for your running event. Return to the field event within 5 minutes of completing your race or you will not be allowed to complete the event.

Water (lots of it)

Snacks (healthy ones) fruits, veggies, sandwiches, power bars, health bars, etc.

Complete uniform

Sweats/warm-up outfit

PowerAde/Gatorade (if desired)

Running Shoes/Spikes

The first thing on arrival is to have your child find his or her age group coach. Check in with them to get the event tags they will be doing at that meet. Make sure they have their sweats on, it will be cool when they arrive.

Your child will need to be aware, at all times, of where his or her coaches are. Keep track of what event is being called ("First call, all Gremlin Girls 200 meters, Last call, all Midget Boys 1500 meters", etc). It is impossible for the coaches to know where thirty or forty athletes are.

Athletes must warm up before each event. Have them check with their coach on when they should report in for warm ups with their group.

As the day warms up, keep your athlete OUT OF THE SUN. Use lots of sunscreen, and have them drink plenty of water and drinks like Gatorade/Powerade. NO SODA!!. Soda depletes the body of fluids. Keep them relaxed and from running around. This is a good time to have them play cards or board games with a friend.
